This walk will focus on organizing work in the Pico neighborhood on issues related gang violence, policing, and education. Leaders from the Pico Youth and Family Center will discuss different organizing projects over the years, including the Vigil for Peace and Mothers for Justice. Representatives may include Maria Loya, Alex Aldana, and Oscar de la Torre. Olla Mitchell from the Parent Connection Group, and the Venice/Santa Monica chapters of the NAACP and the National Council of Negro Women will also be present to share about her work to support education campaigns in support of youth of color in particular.
