Patricia Fernández | Performative Lecture Series
Friday, June 20
Starts at 6pm
18th Street Arts Center | Main Gallery
Free RSVP
On selected Friday evenings starting at 6 pm, Patricia Fernández will present a performative lecture that explores in greater depth a specific personal narrative or regional history connected with the memory archive she is creating for Points of Departure (between Spain and France). As Fernández makes objects that re-perform the experiences and memories of interviewees to create a non-linear narrative of historical events, so do her lectures in the gallery re-create these experiences and memories as a form of oral history.
Each Friday’s presentation will present the history of displacement of the Spanish Civil War and its subsequent dictatorship from the perspective of a specific site or individual. Each story is bound up with objects and visual forms that Fernández develops as motifs in the larger body of work which she is presenting at 18th Street Arts Center.
Patricia Fernández’s Artist Lab Residency at 18th Street Arts Center and all associated events have been made possible through the generous support of the Los Angeles County Arts Commission and The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts.
