Marquis Hill, 18th Street Arts Center‘s current Make Jazz Fellow and winner of the 2014 Thelonious Monk International Jazz Trumpet Competition, will present a Master Class in conjunction with Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz at the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music.

In the first month of his residency, Hill will actively consider compositional and performance concepts for which he is becoming known. Extending oral storytelling traditions, resourceful personality, and community will bounce as one. Let melody equal exploratory line–harmony, deepening color: Hill and his mates will wonder aloud, “How might rhythm unite timbre and time, creators and crowd–tonight?”
