John Ellis
Blue Whale
123 Astronaut E S Onizuka St Suite 301, LA, CA 90012
show starts at 9pm

John Ellis, rising jazz star and 18th Street Arts Center’s current Make Jazz Fellow, will be introducing some newly created work at LA’s premiere jazz club, Blue Whale, on February 7th.

In the first month of his residency, Ellis has been refocusing on his small group concept, pushing the boundaries of mood and gesture in an ensemble of 4 or 5 voices. As always, he delves into narrative and story exploring the possibilities through the time and space of a set, of an evening. Ellis experiments with the different innate expressive potential of various instruments alone and in combinations.

These shows will be a snapshot of his process as a resident at 18th Street Arts Center for three months, showcasing newly completed pieces, re-imagined older works, works in progress, new collaborators, and old accomplices.  Hope to see you all there!

Friday night John will be joined with Mike Moreno on guitar, Dave Robaire on bass, Joe Dyson on drums, and Diego Urbano on vibes.
