2020 Make Jazz Fellow Shirazette Tinnin is a drummer and composer from New York City, in residence at 18th Street Arts Center from February through April. While she is in residence, Tinnin will be composing a new body of work. At the premier Jazz club Sam First Bar, Tinnin will present some of her newest work with seasoned local and guest jazz musicians Jovia Armstrong (percussion), Curtis Taylor (trumpet), Tabari Lake (bass), and Hugo Suarez (piano).
ABOUT 2020 MAKE JAZZ FELLOW
Fulbright Scholar, drummer, educator, clinician, author and health coach Shirazette Tinnin was born and raised in North Carolina. Currently residing in New York City, Shirazette performs and tours frequently with premier bands and artists such as the Allan Harris Group, Tia Fuller Quartet, The Mimi Jones Band, Nicole Mitchell’s Black Earth Ensemble, and many others. Shirazette is also the leader of her own projects including the Shirazette and Sonic WallPaper Fusion Band (formally known as The Shirazette Experiment) and The Blue Popped Culture Trio.
