Join us for a casual open studio to meet visiting resident artist Deng Wen-Jen. You will have the opportunity to learn about her life and inspirations and experience her work.

About Deng Wen-Jen
Deng Wen-Jen graduated from the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Specializing in all fiber materials, Deng’s work features various forms, including combined oil painting and embroidery, floral fabric-based oil paintings, and soft sculptures made with natural dyes. Inspired by her lineage from the Pingpu tribe, her latest works focus on Taiwan’s history, indigenous culture, and ethnic integration. In addition, she incorporates her love of mountain climbing and discovery, blending these elements of life exploration into her tapestries and map creations.
She has held art residencies and exhibitions in many countries in recent years: 2023 “Cheongju”, South Korea, 2019 TIFA Working Studio, Prune, India, 2016 “Border Crossing Past-Paradise” Kyoto University Art and Design, Kyoto, Japan, 2011 “Beautiful Life: Memory and Nostalgia”, South Hill Park Bracknell Gallery, UK, 2008 “Betel Nut Beauties”, Point Éphémère, Paris, France.
The theme of this residency in the United States is the age of great navigation in the world: “Globalization at table”. During her residency, she created a large art work (150 x 300 cm) using indigo dyeing, embroidery and mixed media to express a world map and soft sculpture. She continues to raise concerns and reflections on history and modern society with cartography.
