About Molly Haslund
Molly Haslund lives and works in Copenhagen, Denmark. Her work is performative and sculptural, ranging from musical performances to video works, installations, and choreographed group performances in public spaces. She uses shifting strategies to explore the ways in which identities, social hierarchies, and norms are embedded in and negotiated through movement, cultural rituals, and the configuration of our environment. Specific sites, historical archives, banal objects, and everyday situations are the driving force behind Haslund’s subtle interventions. Thematically, she addresses the mechanisms of interpersonal relationships with an absurdist approach, questioning the nature of representation, contemporary socio-economic rationales, and individual autonomy and agency.
Molly Haslund graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and Glasgow School of Art in 2005. Since then, she has performed and exhibited nationally and internationally. Her latest exhibitions include: ARR. Metropolis, Blågårds Plads, Copenhagen, performance: Mennesker på jorden (People on the Ground), (2022), SMK – National Gallery of Denmark, performance: Teenagers Eating Ice Cream Cones (2020), Den Frie Centre of Contemporary Art, Den Frie Morgen, Vol. 2, performance: Flower Drop, (2021), Absolute Art Space, Tainan, Taiwan, solo exhibition: Clown Wall (2019-2020), O––Overgaden, Copenhagen, solo
exhibition: Teenagers Eating Ice Cream Cones (2019).
In November 2022 Really Simple Syndication Press published the monograph Flower Drop – Introducing Molly Haslund.
Haslund’s works are represented in the collections of the SMK – National Gallery of Denmark, Museum of Contemporary Art in Roskilde, Denmark, and Wanås Konst, Sweden.
Haslund has been awarded a residency at 18th Street through the Danish Arts Foundation.
