During the exhibition, With Entheogenic Intent (Burn the Witch), the space will fluctuate constantly as an environment where new spells will be cast and new historical elements undertaken. Artist Lab Resident, Elena Bajo simultaneously performs and investigates the “sculptural anarchive” of suppressed political histories of the geopolitical context of California, using both anarchic structure and structured disorder as epistemologic and onthological methods of performance research, becoming a dadaist collage that creates new forms of alienation and aesthetic production.
A Manifesto text is interpreted by invited local performers to create their individual choreographies, scripts and scores from previously decoded musical notes ( a method designed by John Cage). The performers interaction happens for the first time in public, allowing the audience to engage with the process of art making as it is happening.
Performers: Ariana Gallastegui, Stephanie Kim, Michelle Lai
Elena Bajo’s Artist Lab Residency at 18th Street Arts Center and all associated events have been made possible through the generous support of the Los Angeles County Arts Commission and The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts.
