Verena Schöttmer works and lives in Hamburg and Berlin. She is focused on installations, paintings and sculpture. In her work she brings together traditional craftsmanship and popular culture, weaving in social codes and quotes. Schöttmer mostly works with fabric: fabric as tissue, as a flexible haptic substance or in a stronger architectural vein, as a tapestry or a curtain.
Schöttmer has been awarded many scholarships and stipends such as Artist in Residence Eastside International, Los Angeles (2018); Georg Meistermann Scholarship, Germany (2013-2015); Hamburger Arbeitsstipendium, Hamburg (2014); and exhibited nationally and internationally in places such as Il Caminetto, Hamburg (2018); Griffith’s Arts Center, Canton, New York (2017); Kunstverein the White House, Vienna (2014); and Tape Modern, Berlin (2011). Schöttmer studied Fine Arts at the HfBK Hamburg, Germany.
