Stephen Eastaugh
Visiting Artist Residency:
August 1 –  September 29, 2019

Stephen Eastaugh was born in Melbourne, Australia and is based in the remote tropical north western Australia. Eastaugh is a visual artist who works primarily in mixed media. He has two fathers, both were sailors and the cause or inspiration for Eastaugh’s self-diagnosed disease: an unremitting, uncontrollable and incurable need to travel. Due to this severe form of wanderlust the artist has travelled to over 100 countries scattered across all continents.

While on the road, he has managed to present over one hundred solo exhibitions in a wide range of venues, for instance, on a Russian Icebreaker at the North Pole, and in a science building in east Antarctica. Eastaugh has made six voyages to Antarctica as an artist in residence on tourist ships and has been awarded on three occasions the Australian Antarctic Arts Fellowship from the Australian Antarctic Division for the Casey Station (2000); the Summer residency, Davis Station (2002-2003); and the Winter residency, Mawson Station (2009).
