Maria Anwander and her artistic works travel constantly between Bregenz and Berlin. After graduating in 2008 from the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, Maria Anwander has done several residencies in various countries including Bilbao Arte, Spain; Harlem Studio, New York; Casino, Luxembourg and Oficina de Arte, in Mexico City, which has helped her grow artistically.

As a conceptual artist by nature, Anwander proposes in her works for viewers to seek a meaning apart from the physical representation itself or the objects being presented.

Her solo and group exhibitions have been found in many countries and cities including Germany, Austria, Utrecht, London, Bilbao, New York, Spain, USA, Mexico City, and Sydney. In 2011 she presented her works at the 4th Biennial of Contemporary Art in Moscow, Russia.

Some of Maria Anwander’s recent projects include ‘The Present’, which focuses on sculptures in cities, the conceptual public space, and subversive found objects. Her other projects ‘The Kiss’ and ‘Untitled’ also focus on sculpture, scenic arts, and ephemera arts. She currently works and lives in Berlin, Germany.

Maria Anwander’s residency at 18th Street Arts Center is proudly funded by:
