Lyndsay Knecht
Local Artist Residency:
18th Street Campus

Lyndsay Knecht (she/her) is an artist and writer working between Texas and Los Angeles. She is interested in the ways movement and visual music can heal relationships to language. Her work in performance and video observes the dynamics of physical memory, mimicry, and truth in drama.

A fascination with the poetics of dance and the role of extreme music in kinetic filmmaking brought Knecht back to a movement practice during lockdowns in 2020. She received an Agora Artists SEEDS grant for new choreographic works in 2021 and has collaborated with dance-curious artists on everything from music videos to translation of gestures into notes for a live score. Lyndsay created workshops for the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth like Sound Sketches, for which students make soundtracks to still works in the galleries. Her work as an arts journalist has been heard or read on NPR stations, in Hyperallergic, The Art Newspaper, and other outlets.

She arrives at 18th Street Arts on the invitation of her studiomate Carol Zou.
