Gina Dominique is a New York City based artist and professor best known for her paintings and installations that merge 21st century techno color with spiritual concepts. Her work is inspired by gestural and geometric abstraction, particularly by notions of concentricity in art, design, geometry, linguistics, mapping, metaphysics, and statistics. Her long-time yoga and meditation practices, including interpretations of the Sanskrit idea of drishti or “focused gaze as a means for developing concentrated intention,” underlie her creative explorations.
Dominique Hersey has a national exhibition record, including a current solo show at the Shala Union Square. She maintains a studio at the Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts in Manhattan. She has received several grants, honors and awards. She is also the recipient of a City University of New York 2019 Fellowship Leave Award. Dominique earned a BFA from Carnegie-Mellon University and the George Washington University’s Corcoran School of Art, and an MFA from the University of New Mexico. She is an Associate Professor at City University of New York’s Lehman College.
