Crystal Michaelson is a mixed media artist based in Venice and Santa Monica, California. Her abstract works are often raw and visceral, simple, yet complex and elegant at the same time. She expresses art with the interplay with her environment. Intuitive marks and gestures guide her through a process of layering, constructing, deconstructing and reconstructing, until the work dictates when it is time to stop. Obscure hints of landscape, architecture or a single line drawing result in compositions that map her journey.
Michaelson has exhibited in solo and group shows both nationally and internationally. To name a few national ones, the galleries include Gloria Delson Contemporary Arts, Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery, Janssen Art Space and Arena 1 Gallery in California, Morgan Stanley Permanent Corporate Art Collection in New York. Her works are also exhibited internationally including Galerie Boeckercontemporary, Heidelberg in Germany, Palazzo Torlonia Avezzano in Italy. Michaelson received her education at the University of California Santa Barbara, California State University, Northridge and ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena, California.
