Cindy DeSantis
Exhibition & Residency:
2010

Cindy DeSantis is an outside artist, cartoonist and musician. The theme of her latest art series, SOS (Save Our Ship) centers on cries for help (Call 911, Save Us, Help Me, Get the Doctor, Dear God…etc..). Her obsessive work is created on scrap wood, using written text and pop iconography gathered from yard sales, eBay, and happy meals. The theme for the series came to her while watching the 2004 Presidential elections. The thought being ”Who is gonna save us of we won’t save ourselves?”

Past reviews of her work state “infused with her own wicked sense of humor, social commentary, dry wit, childlike innocence and cutting irony.”, another notes, “confronts our darkest fears through sheer simplicity and utter silliness. Think Pepon Osorio meets Noah Purifoy on Sesame Street.” She is a published cartoonist (Pink Poodleland on Atmus Press) and also contributed to Coagula Art Journal for two years.Writing credits include Best Sellers List Underground Guide to Los Angeles, West Side Chapter.

As a singer and songwriter she has worked with various LA bands, most notably, Micah Barnes, Loudboy, Mantle, Deadlee, Rodney Waltrip Experiment and ENU (Experimental Noise Unit). She also has been featured singing on stage for musical theater productions by Nesting Dolls and Empire of Teeth. Her art-pop trio, Kittenfreaky has been together since 2000 and just released their first cd, ‘Purrfect Day”. Her time now is split between music, art and working on her underground novel “Suckerville” which she hopes to have published in early 2006.
