Alex Nichols
Residency:
April 1 – June 29, 2021

Alex Nichols is an interdisciplinary artist and writer born in San Francisco. She works with film, writing, photography, drawing, performance and installation. She is engaged in an intimate dialogue about the roles she plays as a woman in her life. As she looks at these roles closely she is lead to the most existential question of our being, can we really know ourselves. The use of the body is dominant in her practice, she believes firmly that ideas and concepts must be physically experienced to become one’s own. Observing her work feels like walking that thin line between reality, memory and illusion that each person lives.

Nichols received an MFA in writing from California College of the Arts. She has exhibited and performed locally and internationally, including Headlands Center For The Arts in Bay Area, ZONAMACO Art Fair Mexico City, Djerassi, MOCA Taipei Taiwan as a participation projects in Collaboration, MODERNISM Gallery, Bamboo Curtain Studios Taipei, Berkeley Art Center and SF Recology San Francisco. She founded the San Francisco artist Collective Think Make Tank in 2015. She has been a guest lecturer at Berkeley University and CCA MFA program.
