Clayton Campbell
Campbell’s work as an artist is a conceptual practice that bridges studio work and public organizing of artist projects, actions, and interventions. This multi faceted practice is consistent with a generation of practitioners who work between studio and public practice. The long time Artistic Director of 18th Street, he is now the Director of the Joan Mitchell Center in New Orleans and remains an artist in residence at 18th Street. Since 1995 he has focused on digital photography and media projects. His new book, “Context Clayton Campbell”, appeared in 2011 and is a 40 year survey of his photo based artmaking. It can be previewed at www.claytoncampbell.com.
Campbell had his first one person show in London at Unit 24 Gallery in October 2011, where he showed his new work plus his seminal participatory photo project, “Words We Have Learned Since 9-11″. Clayton received a Department of Cultural Affairs Cultural Exchange International grant to produce the Words project in Bucharest, Romania, in 2012.
