Bernadette Fox

Displacement, 2011, Sketch

Bernadette Fox has a unique background in Art and Architecture, which includes studies at the graduate M.F.A program at Hunter College, and Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc) (M.Arch 1990). She uses architecture and site as the subject and material of her practice.
Through experiments with Art and Architecture, Bernadette addresses and explores the structure and energy of Space. It is a work of soft and constructive violence concerned with the detonation of space and with establishing a perpetual slippage among disparate spaces – ‘breakout space’, ‘collapsed space’, and ‘alienated space’ as identified in previous work.
In June she will present her spatial research at the PQ2011 Prague Quadrennial.
Bernadette’s awards include a CEC Artslink Award, a Pollock-Krasner Award, Fellowships at the MacDowell Colony, first and second year Fellowships at the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown Mass. She is presently an Artist in Residence at the 18th Street Arts Center in Santa Monica.
