Aska Irie

Mantis, Beads and acrylic on canvas, 30 x 24 inches

Born and raised in Japan, Aska Irie completed her BFA at the National School of Painting, Sculpture and Printmaking “La Esmeralda.” She uses a variety of material including beads, buttons and sequins on a painted surface to create fantastic landscapes and portraits that relate to popular culture and events in her daily life. Irie has exhibited at venues such as Casino Metropolitano and MUCA Roma in Mexico City, Gallery Lara and Geisai #13 in Tokyo, and McNish Gallery and 643 Project Space in Southern California. She is also a founding member of the artist collective Cacahuetes Japoneses who have exhibited their work in venues such as Laboratio Arte-Alameda in Mexico City and Museo de Arte Moderno de Buenos Aires.
