Yvette Gellis
American artist Yvette Gellis was born and raised in the Chicago area, earning her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Illinois at Dekalb. She has attended the University of California Los Angeles and Art Center College of Design in Pasadena and has studied abroad at the Ecole des Beaux Arts, Aix-en-Provence, France, and at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts. In 2008 Ms. Gellis received her M.F.A. from Claremont Graduate University, where she won the President’s Art Award. Her paintings are in numerous public and private collections, including the Claremont Collection.
Ms. Gellis has continued to exhibit her work both locally and internationally earning many reviews. Her recent Public Art Installations in NYC and LA are a continued outgrowth of her practice as a painter. Presently on view at the 18th Street Arts Center, is a collaborative project with Korean artist Han Sungpil called “Open Water”. The artists combined photography and painting to create a mural wrapping of the exterior complex center.
Up coming shows include a solo show at the Garboushian Gallery in Beverly Hills, and a two woman solo show with Austria artist Birgit Sauer at the Brunnhofer Gallerie in Austria.
