NAMAC (National Alliance for Media Arts + Culture) recently selected twenty leaders from visual arts organizations across the nation to be a part of this year’s Leadership Institute for Visual Arts Organizations. 18th Street’s current Program Coordinator, Ronald Lopez, is one of the recipients of this fellowship. Lopez will be given the opportunity to participate in a “five-day intensive intergenerational workshop, designed to encourage and sustain visionary leadership in the arts.”

The Leadership Institute for Visual Arts Organizations is an annual fellowship for arts leaders who have demonstrated a commitment to leadership in their communities, the national field, or in their own professional development, and who have the most potential to contribute to the advancement of the visual arts nationally.

This fellowship is underwritten by The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts.

Saturday May 22, 2010, Australian artist Chris Fox hosted a show that celebrated 19 years of 50 amazing Australian artists in residence at 18th Street Arts Center through the sponsorship of the Australia Council for the Arts.

Groups of past artists, friends, and 18th Street supporters filed into Fox’s spacious studio to view the installations of his and past Australian artists’ work and also to commemorate the legacy of exceptional Australian artists at 18th Street. By the end of the night, Fox’s studio became a full-out artist party with funky tunes spun by an in-house DJ and enough Aussie-style BBQ on the grill to serve the whole complex.
