Exhibition & Residency:
December 2 – December 20, 2013
Using the language of commerce, marketing and media representation, Filip Gilissen gives a diabolic comment on the more cynical aspects of globalization and consumer driven politics. He explores through events, performances, and installations, the one-liners of the spectacle industry. As Frances Loeffler puts it in an earlier article about Gilissen’s work, it is in his work ‘The notion of being on the ‘up’ and pushing it far and hard enough until it starts to collapse and ring hollow’.
Gilissen’s work has been presented in venues such as Talinn Kunsthall (2013), MARTA Museum (2012); Kunshalle Nurnberg (2012); Liste 17 Performance Projeckt (2012); Stedelijk Museum (2013), Witte De With (2011); Nuit Blanche, Paris (2011), M HKA, Antwerp (2011), Museum Boymans Van Beuningen (2011), Liverpool Biennial (2010 UK) and Museum of Fine Art, Boston (2007).
Filip Gilissen (1980) is a Brussels Based artist residing at 18th Art Street Center; The residency is supported by the Vlaamse Overheid in Belgium.
